The difference is really significant if you replace the throttle "cam" with a different openning characteristics "guide plate". For example, in our case, we replaced the factory gray throttle pad of the 2019 KTM EXC250TPI with a black one. We were done with it in roughly 5 minutes and the vehicle's throttle response was very different. It finally became full of life from the previous somewhat lazy, slow response!
The only thing the guide plate (or throttle cam) does, is to open the butterfly valve faster (black) or slower (gray) at the same throttle turn.
A direct, predictable throttle response is very important when learning wheelie, so it is strongly recommended that if someone has a throttle lever where the guide plate can be replaced, don't hesitate to try and test which one is ideal for you. We love the black!
