The importance of proper setup for learning wheelie

The importance of proper setup for learning wheelie

Here are some tips to help your wheelie learning!

When you learn wheelie a dirtbike, it’s a good idea to give yourself all the extra help in bike handling. What is it about? Any modifications that help control your bike more smoothly and directly, will all help you get used to wheelie!

The point is finding the optimal setup for learning how to wheelie your motorbike. There are several topics which should be considered:

·         suspension setup (too stiff won’t help, because you can not pop (push and pull) the front

·         gearing (too short will be too snappy, too tall even worse, the bike won’t wheelie easily)

·         clutch lever (minimal freeplay is preferred, one or two finger operational is a must)

·         throttle freeplay set to minimal

·         rear brake lever (minimal freeplay and at the same level as the footpeg)

·         larger brake pedal tip/cap increases the brake pedal feeling

·         larger (wider) footpeg provides greater grip

·         the surface of the seat should be sticky, do not slip on it, replace it if it is needed

·         the handlebar position should be upright and even a bit forward

·         air/fuel screw setting should be set to rich (but it provides a lower idle)

·         the idle should be a bit higher (it provides better throttle response)

·         the proper power valve setting is the toughest thing, because you should rather screw in the power valve, but not too much, because it results the opposite

·         tyre pressure should be adjusted to the surface where you practice (lower it for better traction)

·         an ECU flash could gain additional benefits

And finally you need a WHEELIEMATE wheelie trainer, which is an easy to use wheelie machine!
